Vernaccia di San Gimignano from Tuscany, Italy is a variety with a very ancient history. The name is thought to derive from the Latin "vernaculus" meaning, appropriately enough, "local" or "from this place". In 1966, Vernaccia di San Gimignano was the first Italian white wine to be awarded its own Denominazione di Origine Controllata, or registered designation of origin. In 1993, it obtained the Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantita status.(D.O.C.G)

This wine has a clear, star-bright straw yellow with greenish highlights. Intense, lingering aromas with distinct notes of minerality and fruit lightly veined with vegetality. Assertive yet not aggressive palate showing good balance of structure, freshness and persistence with a signature twist of almond in the finish.

It is recommended to consume this wine after its first year, the wine presents distinctively fresh fruit, developing its full range of sensory perceptions with bottle age. Good longevity in the cellar enables the wine to maintain its self-assured appeal for two or three years.

Pairs up beautifully as an aperitif or as a partner for dry cheeses, fish, carpaccio or white meats. A superb wine to serve with Japanese sushi cuisine.
